How to Stand on Someone's Shoulders

From Quick Guide: Off-Beat Physical Activities

Summary: It's a proven fact that most predators won't attack anything significantly bigger than themselves, so, should you find yourself lost in the jungle with a friend, standing on his shoulders is a great way to avoid being eaten by a jaguar. More practical uses include cleaning rain gutters, fixing ceiling fans, and -if you own a giant trench coat- winning costume parties as the wobbly, slow-moving giant.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The following directions are for both the person on the bottom (the base) and the person on the top (the flyer).

Decide between the two of you who weighs less. The lightest person should always be the flyer.

  2. Step 2

The base: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and bend your knees with your back straight. Putting your hands on your knees will help to hold this position for long periods of time.
The flyer: Place your right foot at the top of the base's right thigh while using both hands on his shoulders for balance.

  3. Step 3

The base: Stay put, this is going to feel a little weird.
The flyer: Place your left foot on the base's left thigh so that you are now completely off the ground.

  4. Step 4

The flyer: With your hands still on the base's shoulders, lift your right foot up to the right shoulder of the base.

  5. Step 5

The base: Raise both hands slightly above your head, with your palms facing the sky.
The flyer: Grab the base's hands for balance while lifting your left foot up onto the left shoulder. You should now be in a crouching position on top of the base.

  6. Step 6

The base: Stand up straight, this may require you to bring your feet closer together.
The flyer: Once the base is up straight, slowly stand up straight as well.

  7. Step 7

The flyer: Let go one hand at a time, always starting with the right (to avoid confusion). Tell the base exactly when you are letting go.
The base: As the flyer lets go with each hand, immediately grab the ankles of the flyer for support.

  8. Step 8

To get down, either jump forward when the base is prepared, or climb back down in the same fashion.
