Tips & Warnings:

  • If you intend to hop off a curb, beware that once the unicycle reaches lower ground, the pedal can catch on the curb.
  • Even though it's easier to ride a unicycle with a flatter tire, for the sake of bunny-hopping, you'll want the tire firm with air.
  • Practice riding standing up and holding the seat for awhile to get used to the feeling, before trying the bunny-hop.
  • Always wear protective gear when first learning how to ride a unicycle, and every time you try a new trick.
  • If possible, find an experienced person to supervise and spot you.
  • Hopping off or onto curbs is very dangerous and only seasoned unicycle riders should attempt it.

Step1
Learn to ride a unicycle. This will be frustrating and hard, but stick with it because the outcome feels something like reward. If you need a little guidance, check out the eHow article, "How to Unicycle."
Step2
Once you feel comfortable riding the unicycle, pedal forward until your feet are even with one another on a horizontal plain; neither foot should be below the other, but instead they should be at equal height.
Step3
By distributing your weight evenly on each pedal, you can stand up. Balancing in this position for long is nearly impossible unless you can "rock" in place. It's ok if you can't, you will only need to balance for a brief moment.
Step4
Grab the front of the seat with your dominant hand.
Step5
Bend your knees and push down on the pedals, as though you want to push the unicycle into the ground. As the tire flexes under you, it will provide spring in the hop.
Step6
Jump up quickly while pulling the unicycle up with you as you rise. Your feet should never leave the pedals. This will take a little practice to perfect, but ultimately you want the unicycle to move with you like a pogo-stick.
Step7
Continue to bounce in this manner. Balance is surprisingly easy while hopping because you can always shift the unicycle under you no matter which way your weight takes you.
Step8
With a little practice, you can choose which direction to turn as you jump, how high you hop, and exactly where you want to land.
