Step 1
Learn to ride a unicycle. This will be frustrating and hard, but stick with it because the outcome feels something like reward. If you need a little guidance, check out the eHow article, "How to Unicycle."
-
Step 2
Once you feel comfortable riding the unicycle, pedal forward until your feet are even with one another on a horizontal plain; neither foot should be below the other, but instead they should be at equal height.
-
Step 3
By distributing your weight evenly on each pedal, you can stand up. Balancing in this position for long is nearly impossible unless you can "rock" in place. It's ok if you can't, you will only need to balance for a brief moment.
-
Step 4
Grab the front of the seat with your dominant hand.
-
Step 5
Bend your knees and push down on the pedals, as though you want to push the unicycle into the ground. As the tire flexes under you, it will provide spring in the hop.
-
Step 6
Jump up quickly while pulling the unicycle up with you as you rise. Your feet should never leave the pedals. This will take a little practice to perfect, but ultimately you want the unicycle to move with you like a pogo-stick.
-
Step 7
Continue to bounce in this manner. Balance is surprisingly easy while hopping because you can always shift the unicycle under you no matter which way your weight takes you.
-
Step 8
With a little practice, you can choose which direction to turn as you jump, how high you hop, and exactly where you want to land.
