The first step in knitting is knowing how to cast on. The method I demonstrate here is the most common way to cast on stitches to knit. The video will help you to visualize how to do the slingshot, or long tail cast-on.
It's a good idea to practice the cast-on with yarn other than what you will be using in your project. That way, if you have to re-do it a couple of times, you're not wearing out your yarn.
Avoid casting on too tightly by using a larger needle for your cast-on stitches, or by using two needles to cast onto.
Do not give up. You'll get this down, and then you'll love it!
Knitting can be addictive!
Step1
Determine how much of a tail you will need to allow. This is done by allowing approximately one inch of yarn for each stitch you will be casting on.
Step2
Make a slip knot at your determined length.
Step3
Watch the video to see how to work the slingshot, or long tail cast-on.
