Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Note: These steps are designed for a right handed person. If you are left handed, just switch each direction to suit your dominant side.

Place your right elbow between your navel and your hip bone.

  2. Step 2

Arch your right wrist back with your palm opening away from your body and your fingers pointing downward.

  3. Step 3

Grab the pole with your right hand so that your index finger is the closest finger to the ground. This creates a base, all of your weight will be on this arm.

  4. Step 4

Wrap your left arm around the pole above your right hand until the pole lodges nicely in your armpit.

  5. Step 5

Grab the pole with your left hand about 6 inches above your right hand without turning or tweaking your wrist and squeeze the pole under your arm. Now you should be gripping the pole like a shovel with a handle that's too long.

  6. Step 6

Tense your stomach muscles and lift your feet off the ground one at a time away from the pole while allowing your body weight to rest on your right elbow. With a little practice, you can hold the position for several seconds.
