How to Convert a Movie for an iPod Using iSquint (Mac)

Video Preview

Introduction

iSquint is a free video conversion program for Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. It's super fast, works with just about all popular video formats and is extremely easy to use (like drag and drop easy). Oh and did I mention that it's free?

Tips & Warnings:

  • For even greater conversion possibilites Visual Hub is another program by the iSquint guys. It's not free, but it's well worth it if you have an iphone or other device that requires further video optimization.

Step1
Go to http://www.isquint.org and download iSquint for free.
Step2
Once you've installed the program open it up, find a movie you want to convert and simply drag the movie directly into iSquint. If you'd like to convert more than one movie at time or if your movie has multiple parts simply drag all the files right into the queue. (you can also use the little plus sign (+) to browse and add a movie or the minus sign (-) to delete a movie from the queue).
Step3
Once you've added your movie(s) go to the 'Settings' box and click 'Optimize for iPod' then check 'Add to iTunes' and set the desired quality on the slider. I usually like to 'Go Nuts'!
Step4
Click start and you're done! In a few moments your movie will be converted and added directly to your iTunes library.

on 1/4/2008 Please note the Overall Tips and Warnings section where I've already referenced VisualHub. It was never stated that isquint is the best choice for video conversion. This article is merely intended to illustrate how to find and use a "free" video conversion program (unlike visualhub) to do a relatively descent conversion easily.

on 1/4/2008 I prefer not to use isquint, it can cause pixelation when you set the quality silder to the higher settings. visualhub is also great.
