How to Add and Remove Line Spacing on MS Word

Introduction

The video is for the second half of this ehow. If you want to just format a Word document to add or remove line spacing as a 'look' and not really remove the actual lines or if you really want to remove the lines permanently I include that information below as well. I will show you how to do it with Word 2007. The video demo's Word 2007 complete removal of lines not formatting.

Tips & Warnings:

  • You can remove double spacing by putting ^p^p on the find line and ^p on the replace line.
  • Save a copy of you document before you replace all occurrences, just in case...

Step1
Select the text you want to effect with the mouse by highlighting the text. To highlight text click a blank area next to your text, hold down the button and drag to the top of the area you want to effect.
Step2
Hold down the ALT key (next to the spacebar) and while holding it press - P, P, G
Step3
Change in the line spacing section the line spacing you with the document to have and hit ok.
Step4
If you want to physically remove the lines from a document read below or watch the video of this document.
Step5
Bring up the Find and Replace window in Word.

In Word 2007 click the icon in this picture to bring up find and replace screen, in older version use the edit menu at the top of your screen.
Step6
On the Find line put ^p and on the replace line leave it blank. Click replace.
Step7
Repeat and do ^l on the find line and leave the replace line blank again. Click replace.
