Step1
The first thing that you should do is power up the laptop that is running Microsoft Windows Vista.
Step2
Once the desktop screen is loaded, click on the "Start" icon.
Step3
Once you click on the "Start" icon, a new menu will appear. You must find and select "Control Panel".
Step4
Once the Control Panel has loaded, you will see a number of icons. Locate and select "Power Options".
Step5
When the Power Options screen opens, look along the left hand side. You will see a menu. Find the option that says "Choose what closing the lid does", and click on it to open.
Step6
The System Settings screen will open. This is where you can define the functions of the power button, as well as the laptop lid settings. If you wish to set up your laptop to shut down when the lid is closed, simply go to "Power Button and lid settings", then go to "When I close the lid:". You can then choose to have the system shut down when you shut the lid while using the battery, as well as when you are using the power adapter to your laptop.
Step7
Once you have chosen your settings, simply click on "Save Changes" to implement them on your Microsoft Windows Vista laptop.
Step8
You will be brought back to the Power Options screen. Hit the close button to escape this window.
