Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Tips & Warnings:
- Teamwork almost always trumps skill. A group of average players working together can provide a very tough challenge for a group of independent, great players.
- Be the Steve Nash of your team. I award the players I play with, congratulating the "Steve Nash" of the round. Assists should be celebrated - they're vital to a team winning the round!
- Gamers with funny gamertags are usually pretty good at the game, for whatever reason.
- Don't fear the players with "420" or anything pot-related in their gamertags.
- If a player has anything Halo-related in their gamertag, be prepared for a tough fight.
Step1
Learn the maps! Know where the spartan laser is in Valhalla? The sniper rifle in Snowbound? It's essential you learn where the weapons are, the smart places to ambush people and the in's and out's of each map so you don't foolishly strafe into a wall.
Step2
You need to familiarize yourself with a few weapons. While it pays to be good with the sniper rifle, use the battle rifle to practice aiming for the head. Learn the arc of each type of grenade. Throwing a grenade is useless if you don't know it's trajectory.
Step3
ALWAYS aim for the head. I constantly hear "I shot that guy SO MANY TIMES, and he turns and shoots me three times and I'm dead!" A spartan takes much more shots to the body than the head. The thing you notice about the higher-placed players is the number of headshots.
Step4
Don't play dumb - let your shield recharge. Wait for your teammates. Assists are important, too!
Step5
And the absolutely most vital step in becoming a better Halo 3 player is to SAVE YOUR LIVES. Don't carelessly throw death's away. Crouch, wait for a spartan to run by, attack him from behind. If you see three red dots in the radar headed in your direction, hide, or find your teammates.
Value your DEATHS! Don't just toss them away. If you're leading your team in death's, you're doing something wrong.

on 10/26/2007 I like your comment, "Don't fear the players with "420" or anything pot-related in their gamertags." That's probably 95% true or better.

on 9/25/2007 The crackdown note is a bit dated. Halo 3 is now officially out, you can purchase a copy where ever games are sold.
Another note about learning to play better in halo 3, stick with your team if you aren't great, chances are 2 of you are better then 1 of them.
