Teaching your dog the command come is one of the most important things you can ever teach your dog. This command can literally save your dogs life. Learn how to teach this command using the Spring Loaded Recall Exercise.
Make sure that you have your dog's collar before you reward your dog.
Always make sure you're having fun when your doing this exercise
Use different types of rewards, food, praise, toys etc.
Don't do the exercise too many times. You always want to end with your dog wanting to do more
If you are outside practice in a large fenced in area like a tennis court or softball field
If you cannot find a fenced in area practice with your dog on a long leash
Step1
Have a friend help you teach your dog the command come. Have your friend hold your dogs leash. As your friend is holding the leash, get your dog real excited. Really get your dog wound up using a lot of movement and a happy, high pitched tone of voice. Once you see that your dog is real excited...
Step2
Run about twenty to thirty feet away from your dog. Once your about twenty to thirty feet away quickly turn and face your dog. Crouch down nice and low.
Step3
Give your dog the command COME and instruct your friend to drop the leash at the moment you say the command come.
Step4
Once your dog races to you, take your dog's collar and then reach into your pocket and quickly reward your dog.
