Take out butter ahead of time to soften before mixing.
Use freshly opened baking soda.
If you use salted butter cut the amount of salt added in half.
These cookies will look and smell delicious. Please allow a cool down period or you will burn your mouth.
Step1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
Step2
In a mixing bowl add the brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla, butter, and egg. Mix until you get a creamy consistency. If you are using an electric mixer this will take between 2 to 3 minutes on slow.
Step3
Now add the flour, baking soda, and the salt. Mix to form a cookie dough consistency. If the batter seems dry add a touch more vanilla to moisten the dough.
Step4
Now add the oatmeal and the chocolate chips. Mix thoroughly.
Step5
Separate dough into 1/2 inch round dough balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press down lightly to flatten into a cookie shape.
Step6
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Wait a minute or so and enjoy!

I can validate that these are totally awesome cookies. I was lucky enough to eat one (oh, okay three) of the very cookies featured in this video article!
