Step 1
WATCH THE COACHELLA MOVIE. This 2 hour film had a nationwide theatrical release in early 2006, and is now available on DVD in your local Blockbuster, Best Buy, on Netflix, etc. It's mostly music performances from the first 6 years of the festival, intercut with interviews with artists and fans.
It's phenomenal! VERY well done. I have a large collection of live music DVDs, and this is my favorite. I can watch it over and over. It really captures the "spirit" of Coachella, and what it's like to be there.
You can watch a trailer at http://www.coachella.com/movie/ -
Step 2
CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE. http://www.coachella.com/ is an excellent resource for all things Coachella. You can view photo galleries from all the previous Coachellas, and talk to other fans on the official messageboard at http://coachella.com/forum (which stays busy year round)

Step 3
READ THE WIKIPEDIA ENTRY. There's an excellent summary of what Coachella is, including a history of how the festival started, how it's changed over the years, who's played there, etc. Check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coachella_Valley_Music_and_Arts_Festival

Step 4
SCOUR YOUTUBE. Go to http://www.youtube.com and just do a search for "Coachella" and see how much stuff comes up. You can find clips from just about every artist who's played the past few years!
Some of my favorite clips are:
