Tips & Warnings:

  • Your guests will want to play with the items you have placed in the jars. Let them! This means they are having fun and you’re doing your job as a host!
  • If your flowers aren’t opening in time for your party, place them in a large vase with hot water for a few hours. It helps them open faster.
  • Engrave the date and a resolution on the silver horn and make it a tradition to use it every New Year's Eve, adding the new date and resolution every year.

Step1
Start with a simple but decorative tray to use as your base. Make sure it is at least 2 to 2.5 inches deep.
Step2
Fill the entire base of the tray with water-soaked oasis (green florist foam).
Step3
Order enough flowers to cover the bottom of the tray. Carnations work well. They get a bad rap for being a poor man's rose, but they look amazing all together like this.
Step4
Cut the flower stem about 2 inches from the head. Stick the stems directly into the floral oasis until the entire area is covered with a bed of carnations and the oasis foam is completely hidden by flowers.
Step5
Pick up a few apothecary jars. Three is ideal; two of the same size and a taller one to place in between them.
Step6
Follow the same instructions as the base (above) and fill the bottom of the apothecary jars with oasis and flowers. Roses make a good flower for this step.
Step7
To mask the oasis at the bottom of your apothecary jars, wrap the outside of the jar with ribbon. Layer it thick and thin to add a bit more texture.
Step8
Accent the apothecary jars by filling them with iconic New Year’s Eve symbols. Party horns, noise makers and party hats work great! Order them online from party stores, or for the real deal you can buy them from a high-end place like Tiffany's.
Step9
Center the jars on the flower pillow made in your tray and put a lid on it! The jars, that is….
