Step 1
Skumping is kind of difficult for beginners to get a hang of. It does take time and practice. But once you master this technique you don't have to put your foot on the ground again to gain speed on the flats.
-
Step 2
Think of skumping as carving your longboard in such a way that you accelerate your board. You're going to be shifting your weight from toe side to heel side while using your hips to propel you forward.
-
Step 3
If you skate regular this is how you start off skumping. Push off on your board and curve to the left and at the same time shift your weight over to your left foot.
-
Step 4
Next you're going to use your hips and put your weight on your right foot as your carve your board to the right.
-
Step 5
Keep repeating steps 3 and 4. The key here is to move your hips like you're hula hooping. They should be going in an oblong circular motion.
-
Step 6
Kind of tricky huh? No worries, keep practicing and you'll get a better feel of the board beneath your feet and in no time you'll be skumping past your friends.
