How to Sharpen Cutco Knives With a Stone

Teresa Starr

No matter what kind of knifes you use, it is extremely important to sharpen the knives before they get too dull. Completely dull knives will not work properly and if they are never sharpened, they might get to the point of no return--meaning you will have a hard time getting the blade back to where it should be. Knives are made out of a variety of materials, but most Cutco knives are made out of stainless steel or high-carbon stainless steel, which is ideal for sharpening. Sharpening your Cutco knives with a sharpening stone is a task that almost anyone can complete.

Dish soap can be used to lubricate the knife before sharpening.
  1. Saturate a soft cloth with dish soap.

  2. Rub the cloth (with dish soap) over the surface of the knife, carefully. This will lubricate the knife, which is important while sharpening.

  3. Lay the sharpening stone on a table or other stable, flat surface. Ensure that you keep the sharpening stone in the same position throughout the sharpening process.

  4. Place the Cutco knife on the sharpening stone at a 20-degree angle or slightly tilted. Starting from the tip of the blade to the handle, move the knife in a circular motion--ensuring that the sharpening stone remains still. Do this for the one side of the blade.

  5. Flip the knife over and repeat step 4--moving the blade from the tip to the handle in a circular motion. It is important to sharpen both sides of the knife the exact same way. If you don't, the blade won't be as sharp as it should be.
