This is David Roe from Blue Dog Ranch, and this is five tips for training a dog. If you use these five tips I'm about to talk to you about, you'll effectively train your dog quicker and at a deeper level. Number one, make sure the dog is hungry. If he's motivated to pay attention to you, he'll learn faster. Number two, practice short training periods. It's so much better to have a little success and then let them be free, then to spend too much time with your training. Number three, in the beginning practice in a distraction-free environment. Remember, your dog doesn't know what you're trying to teach him yet, so he needs to focus only on you and not have other things going on around you while you're trying to teach him. Number four, never repeat a command. If your goal is to have your dog go something the first time you tell them, then that's the way you need to train them. Number five, go easy on the corrections. Remember, your dog doesn't understand what you're trying to teach him yet, so correcting him when he makes a mistake at this point would be inappropriate.
