I'm Gene West and this is how to install curtains and valances. Most curtain series come with a coordinating top treatment. This makes it easy to bridge the curtains on either side of the window. You can achieve this look by installing a double curtain rod. This will allow you to install one layer of curtains over the other. One thing to remember is you can use an inexpensive conventional double curtain rod. Or you can use one of the more expensive decorative curtain rods that come in dozens of colors with decorative finials on either end. Finishing your window treatments with a valance over your panels is kind of the icing on the cake. Sometimes you'll see panels on either side and you see the rod in the center. I always see that as an unfinished window treatment. I think if you install your valance over your panels I think, more cases than not, you will be more satisfied with your products that way.
