I am Dr. Jeffrey Levy, house call vet, NYC and this is how to give your cat a bath without killing yourself or the cat. As a practicing veterinarian, people at times ask me how to bathe their cats. We're going to provide you with some tips to make this a safe and effective experience for both you and your kitty. When you bathe your cat, safety first, make sure your kitty's nails are trimmed so you are not hurt in the process. Secondly, use your bathtub rather than the sink. If your cat should slip away from you, it won't fall from the sink to the floor but just from the height of a bathtub. Thirdly, please place a bathmat in the bottom of the tub. This way your cat will feel more secure, maintaining a steady grip on the bathtub surface. In addition, please wear protective clothing and use a vet approved ointment to protect their eyes so water does not irritate their eyes. Have towels nearby so you can dry your cat quickly after the bath. If you follow my tips as to how to bathe your cat, your kitty will be clean and you will be protected.
