Hi, my name is Christina and this is transitions following the birth of a new sibling. Adding a new baby to the family can be so wonderful but it doesn't come without its share of challenges. It's best to start early preparing your children for the new arrival. One of my favorite ways to help children prepare for a new baby is to use a baby doll to start teaching them gentle touches and if you have older children, how to hold the baby. You can even do this with toddlers, having them sit down, showing them the arm position, how to support their head and also using a baby doll to show how small the new baby will be and how careful you have to be. After a baby is born life can be really busy and exhausting. Even though you are tired, it's so important to make time for your other children, sitting them down and talking with them about the new baby and how they feel about the changes that are happening. A lot of your time and attention that used to be devoted to them is now being shared with a new needy person. Giving them space to express their emotions will help them to feel secure. Though tired, it's important to carve out special time with your other children and to involve them in fun little tasks where you get to praise them for being big helpers. This involves them in the family life and helps them to feel like they are doing something important. Thanks for watching.
