Hi, I'm Matthew Pizzi, and I'm going to show you how you can use a color table inside of Photoshop. The best reason to use a color table inside of Photoshop is to create a catalog of colors available within the image and that's what we're going to take a look at in this video. In order to work with a color table, you have to be working with an index color document. You'll notice I have this image open and with this image open I'm going to come up to the image menu and from the image menu I'm going to choose mode and then I'm going to choose index color. Now this is going to open up a dialog box and here you have to specify how you want this table to be generated. You have limited options here and you'll notice that the maximum amount of colors that you can create is 256. So I'm going to go ahead and leave that value of 256 in there and I'm going to go ahead and click okay. Once you click okay, you'll notice you have the color table. Now what we want to do is we want to be able to use these colors somewhere else within Photoshop. In order for us to do that, we're going to go ahead and save this color table. When you click save you are going to be saving an ACT file. I'm going to go ahead and save this on my desktop as robot.act. Once you have saved the color table, you have to open up your swatches panel. You can open up the swatches panel by going to the Window menu and from the Window menu you can choose swatches. Once you have the swatches panel open, in the top right hand corner, you can go ahead and choose load swatches. This will open up a dialog box, simply find the file that you just exported and click okay. We're going to go ahead and append these colors to our existing swatch and you'll notice now inside the swatches panel all of the colors in the color table are available for use.
