Hi, my name is Christina and this is how to play with a newborn. Having a newborn can be so much fun and playing with them is a great way to learn about this new person. Newborns don't spend much time awake and when they do they're often eating. However you might have a few short times during the day where they're alert and looking around experiencing their new environment. These would be great times to lay them down on a blanket or on your lap. This is a good time to play with their little hands and feet, talk to them, sing them songs. You can dangle small things above them to catch their eye. Their nervous system and motor skills aren't mature enough to do much with the items that you dangle or even do much to interact with you. Right around the eight week mark they might start to smile. The most important things you can do to interact with your newborn is to talk to them and to hold them. Skin on skin, sing to them, look at them in the eye even if they can't see you you're building habits in yourself as a parent as well as interacting with them. I love the first couple weeks of getting to know your new baby. Even though a lot of their personality isn't coming through yet they're experiencing their environment and absorbing everything in. Thanks for watching.
