Hi, I'm Patrick Coll and I'm here today to answer the question, "What is the iPad's side switch? You may have wondered what this side switch here is for. And it's good to know what it's for because it serves a very useful function. Simply, your iPad side switch turns off your ringer. Your ringer lights you know, when you have a message coming in, when you're notified of someone being in contact with you. So, this turns it on and off. But, also be aware that this side switch will turn off the volume for any videos that you watch, say on Instagram or Youtube. This has happened to me before, I couldn't hear any volume from any videos I was watching. It took me awhile to figure it out, then I realize that it's the side switch here that needs to be on. What you also need to know about is this side switch has another function. This other function is it will lock how your iPad appears, whether it's vertical and portrait, or horizontal and landscape. The way that we change what the side switch does is by going to settings. Once from settings, we go to general and we see it right here, use side switch to lock rotation or mute. So, if you want to change it, you then put it on lock rotation. And there you go, you see that the icon changes here. Now, when I turn my iPad, it stays. I'm Patrick Coll, hope this has been helpful; thank you for watching.
