Hi, I'm John Eason, principle of John Douglas Eason Interiors, an interior design firm based in New York City, and I'll be talking with you about ultra modern ways to decorate a house. The modern look features clean lines, low profiles, tone on tone coloration, and minimal detailing. As with the pieces, here, modern design is casual, flexible and multifunctional. This pull up table, for example, can serve as an informal drinks table, or a side table when paired with a chair. Note the low, massive forms, mounted on narrow stainless steel legs, implying both solidity, and weightlessness, something that can only be achieved with great, modern engineering. Materials and construction contribute significantly to the modern look. Clean, smooth and hard finishes are also often associated with the modern look. Here, for example, we have some very new pieces for this year, and a highly lacquered, glossy finish. To emphasize modern forms, I recommend a monochromatic color scheme, and playing with light and dark versions of the same color. The right accessories can also enhance the modern look, even though it is inherently minimal. Here, I've added a touch of color and a mid-century modern vibe with these sleek vintage Blanco glass pieces. This is John Eason, and I hope you've enjoyed my tips on ultra modern ways of decorating a house.
