My name is Jennifer Hyde. I'm here today to show you how to make a cleanser for your dreadlocks using water, baking soda and tea tree oil. We are going to put these together very easily in this nice pitcher of warm water that we already have ready. You can see here that I've already assembled all of my ingredients, the key things that I want to use as well as some extra essential oils just for fragrance. This is a very very easy cleanser to assemble that you can do yourself at home, great way to help remove dirt and oils as well as any buildup that your locks might have. The baking soda acts as gentle exfoliant and brings the solution up to an alkaline state which helps to remove anything foreign that's in the hair that shouldn't be there. So now let's put this together. First we are going to add baking soda. This is just regular baking soda that you can get at any drugstore, grocery store. We're going to put about a quarter of a cup of baking soda into our mixture, going to stir that up. Then we're going to begin to add our essential oils. I'm first going to add tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a wonderful ingredient that helps to balance the natural oil production on the scalp. So we're going to put a few drops of this in and you can put anywhere from about five to ten drops. And then we're going to stir that into our mixture as well. Okay so now that you've mixed up all your ingredients, you've mixed the baking soda with your tea tree oil and you can add other essential oils for fragrance if you like. I love the smell of the grapefruit oil and I think it's really great with this mixture so I'm going to add just another drop or so of that and then I'm going to stir this mixture. And now that we have our mixture all together, it is ready to be poured into the hair to act as a cleansing agent. You're going to pour this over the hair gently allowing it to soak into each dreadlock so that it can be massaged and manipulated into the scalp for cleansing purposes.
