I'm Jerry Pozniak, managing director of Jeeves, Manhattan's luxury dry-cleaning brand. And this is what do the different color tags dry-cleaners put in garments after clothes are cleaned mean? Have you ever gotten your garments back from a dry-cleaner and wondered what those different colored tags are on the inside? Well, they're used for tracking. That's so that your black dress isn't confused with the eight other black dresses that the dry-cleaner is cleaning at the same time. Generally when you come into the store the dry-cleaner will give you a receipt. Step 2, that receipt will relate to a marking tag which has a number on it, a control number. This is then pinned to your dress so that during the cleaning process they know that that black dress belongs to you. After cleaning, generally that number is matched up with your invoice so that when you get your dress home it's your black dress. So the next time when you get home and you see that colored tag in your dress you'll have a little bit of better understanding of what goes behind the scenes at a dry-cleaner.
