Hi, I’m Jenn Fadal, founder of The Pack Mom. And, this is how to set up your new dog kennel. So, the most important thing when setting up your new dog kennel is to decide on the size of the crate. You want your dog to have room to stand up, turn around, and lay down comfortably. So, if you have a large-breed puppy, let’s say, and you don’t want to spend money on two or three crates during the lifetime of the dog, buy a crate that has a divider so you can increase the size of the crate as your puppy grows into a full-grown dog. Secondly, decide on the location of your dog’s kennel. The location should be in a frequently-trafficked area of your home. The idea of a kennel is not to isolate your dog from the family, but for it to be a part of the family and to have its own little den. So, family rooms are great, sometimes bedrooms could be good too, but somewhere where it’s frequently trafficked. And, lastly, make the crate fun. Put a great blanket in – nice soft, comfortable blanket – put toys, treats. During the day, leave the crate door open when you’re home. And, play fetch, and find a treat in and out of the crate so your dog gets used to the crate and kind of starts to like his new kennel. And then, when you’re gone and you have to close him in the crate, he should be comfortable with it. So, I’m Jenn Fadal. Thanks for watching, and this is how to set up your new dog’s kennel.
