Hi, my name is Dan Weisenberger, and today I would like to talk about the significance of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a very fascinating process which occurs in plants in which energy from the sun goes in to plant cells and catalyzes essentially and converts light energy in to chemical energy. And it does this by a very complicated and step wise procedure where it basically breaks a water molecule and converts in to sugar which I call CH2O with an n and then that goes through that gets built up in subsequent cycles. The glycolisis cycle, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphoralation and the result is energy that the cell needs to thrive and survive. And the fascinating part of it is that it came from an external source, that means the light from the sun that is absorbed in to specialized pigments in plant cells called chlorophyll and here we see that light energy is converted in to chemical energy for the cell's use.
