My name is Susan Combs, and today we're going to talk about how to be an insurance rep. When it comes to becoming an insurance rep all you are is a representative of a carrier. So a lot of times people don't understand the difference between an agent and a broker. So a broker, the allegiance is to the client, and they represent multiple different carriers out there. An agent or a rep is going to represent only one carrier. So when it comes to becoming an insurance rep in terms of like the schooling and things like that, it's going to be the exact same as a normal agent or broker. So you're going to go through those 40 hours of class, you're going to have to take an exam at that class to make sure that you can sit for the state exam. And then you'll sit for the state exam and then you become licensed. So when you're a representative of that company you're going to be an expert on that company. So you're going to know all their products, you know the exclusions, know exactly what it's paying out and know what states it's offered in. And so you're going to be the go-to person. A lot of times if you're an insurance rep your clients are going to actually be brokers. Because the brokers are going to come to you as an expert to have you provide them with insurance quotes and things like that for their clients. So you know, sometimes you might get brought in on appointments, sometimes you're just going to be interfacing with the broker, but the main thing is, is you're going to represent that carrier and that carrier alone.
