Hi, I'm Dr. Robert Pomahac. And today's question is weightlifting versus Universal Equipment. I think both are really important. The free weights are important because you get to focus on posture. The small intrinsic muscles, the posture muscles. And also have to focus on the push. Universal on the other hand you focus on posture and just pushing the weight. So a combination of both is better then just the combination of one. One key thing to remember when you are doing the bench press is it's not just about your chest. You have to incorporate your whole body to make sure your posture and your technique are on top. So how do you do that? First of all you have to find your pelvic neutral. By doing that you tip your hips forward, tip them back. Find the pelvic neutral. Also while you are doing a bench press make sure your head is against the pad. The last part is when you are doing a bench press your shoulders should not be at 90 degrees. They should be a little bit down so about 80 degrees giving you a better shoulder position. So once again a lot of things come into play due to proper posture and technique for doing the bench press. So you focus all your pressure on your chest. And that way you avoid injury.
