Hi, I'm Coleen Christian Burke and I'm going to show you how to hang Christmas garland on your staircase. Hanging garlands on your staircase is probably the most dramatic way you change your home at Christmas time and it's easy. You will need garland, green floral wire, wire clippers and whatever decorations you would like to add to your garland. Items like bows, ornaments, flowers, even a stocking, they all work great. And here's a rule of thumb. You want to have about one foot garland for every foot of staircase. And if you have a little more, even better. Investing in good garland is worth it because it lasts forever; it's indestructible. Before you get started, if you're working with pre-lit garland, find the electrical plug and make sure that end is near your socket. You can see I've already hung much of my garland. I've started at the top and I've attached it by wrapping the floral wire all the way around the garland and the staircase banister; that will really hold it tight. Here in the middle I want to do a swag effect, so I will simply pull my garland to the place I want it and attach it with floral wire, making sure to hide my wire. Since this swag is the center of the staircase, I definitely want a bow or an embellishment here. Just like with the garland, I am going to attach my bow with floral wire. I also want to show you how easy it is to attach ornaments. I picked these out at a dollar store and I like them because of their curly top. You can just slide it right into the garland. The best advice I can give you when decorating your staircase is to check your work from the ground level. You can best tell if your garland and ornaments are even from the ground. So, plan on getting a great workout this holiday season.
