Hi, I'm Karon White Gibson, registered nurse and certified case manager. Today, we're gonna be talking about the ear. The ear has a lot of different things that can happen to it both inside and out. We've often heard about inner ear infections, but there are also outer ear infections, and the lobe can become infected and damaged, particularly if you're wearing any kind of a heavy earring. This particular earring is large, but it's not very heavy. I personally know what can happen, because I had an earring actually work its way out of my ear when I was wearing a pierced earring. It didn't even hurt, but it did slice my ear. Those can be repaired, but it can be a costly proposition. If you have any kind of toxins or chemicals from earrings, they can cause infections in your ear. If you're not good with alcohol and swabbing them immediately after you have them pierced, there can be a serious problem, and there are many different things that can happen with the outside lobe. In Chinese medicine it's very important that there's feeling in the ear. So when you have some of these things done to it, it can cause differences in the body and can cause what they can't find out about your body, because it eliminates the different feelings. It can cause pain too. Sometimes there is even blood taken from the ear.
