This is Mindy McIntosh-Shetter, and I'm going to show you how to kill turf to plant a garden. Now, the easiest way to do that is to make sure that you prevent the plant from producing any type of food source. In other words, blocking sunlight. Now, you can do this in several different ways. One way is to lay a plastic down, or you can use a more organic way and that's the way I would suggest. And that is either laying five layers of newspaper down or better yet, laying cardboard down. And what you're simply going to do is roll out cardboard in an area where you would like your garden and you're just going to secure it down to the ground with heavy stones, bricks, landscape stakes, something along that lines. You want it flat to the ground as much as possible to prevent any type of sunlight from getting underneath the cardboard. In a spat of season, you can remove the cardboard and the plant material underneath will be dead and at that time you can plant your garden.
