This is Mindy McIntosh-Shetter, and I'm going to show you how to plant a garden with fabric. Now long before landscape cloth came around many people were planting in burlap and that is a technique I am going to show you. Now burlap is a great material to use. Not only does it act as a landscape cloth but it also has some ability to prevent weed seeds from germinating. Now what you're gonna do is you're going to stretch out your burlap which can be purchased at a fabric store and at some Feed and Seeds and you're gonna make it as tight as possible. You're gonna secure it to the ground with either, landscape stakes, bricks, stones, something with some weight to make sure that, that landscape or that burlap stays nice and taut and close to the ground. You're then going to cut an axe where you want to plant your plant material. You will open that x up and plant inside where that x location is digging your hole, planting your plant material as usual and closing up the hole. Now unlike planting in plastic you're not gonna have to poke any holes in it for water because the burlap itself has pores in I by which the water can percolate down through the soil. So you won't have to do that step. Just make sure that you close the x and secure it in some form or fashion with a landscaping stake or something along that lines. That way it will not only prevent weeds from coming up but it will help, help conserve soil moisture.
