Hi, my name is Marija, and today I'm gonna show you how to do negative and positive integers. We're gonna talk about all four operations, and we'll start with adding and subtracting them. So if you're adding and subtracting positive integers, such as five plus negative three, one thing that you can do is use a number line. You can use the number line by going to the first integer five, one, two, three, four, five, and then whatever number your adding, if it's negative, we're gonna move to the left, and if it would have been positive, we would move to the right. So because it's negative, we're gonna go three spaces left from the five, one, two, three. And that brings us to positive two. So that means that five plus negative three is positive two. The other way that you can do this for positive and negative integers, is remembering the rule. Which is if you're adding with two different signs, this one is positive and this one is negative, the rule is to subtract, which we did, five minus three is two, and keep the sign of the number that has the higher absolute value. So, five has the higher absolute value, and it's positive, so my answer should stay positive. When you multiply and divide positive and negative numbers, the rules that you have to remember are that a positive times a positive is positive. A negative times a negative is also positive. And then when you multiply or divide different signs, you get a negative. And the same rules apply for division. So when you're multiplying or diving two positives, you get a positive, two negatives, you get a positive, and a negative times a positive, you get a negative. So those are your rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing positive and negative integers.
