Hi, my name is Marija, and today I'm gonna give you some math projects about ratios and rates, and the best project that you can do for this is probably projects about the better buy. So we'll get students into supermarkets, you can have them picking out their own prices that they see in the supermarket or in the ads, or you can give them prices, and you can ask them to find out which is the better buy. And they would have to do this by finding the unit rate of each item that you give them. So for example if you tell them there is a soda that is 20 ounces and it costs three dollars, and then you have another soda that is the super sized 32 ounce, and that costs five dollars, which is the better buy? So you'd be asking the students to find out what is the unit rate? How much does one cost per ounce, and how much does the 32 ounce cost per ounce? And at that point they can compare the unit rates to find out which is the better buy. That's how you can use rates and ratios for a project in math.
