Hi. I'm Jordana Lorraine and I'm going to show you how to do the Katniss braid on yourself. The Katniss braid is a hairstyle worn by Katiniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games." It's best for long thick hair and it's loose chunky dutch braid that starts on one side of the head and it travels diagonally across the back, ending in a long braid over the other shoulder. If you have wavy hair you can just do this braid with your hair already waved. If you have straight hair you're going to want to create a little more texture at the root. You can do this just by wrapping the roots of your hair around an iron for a few seconds twisting it in different directions. So once you've put the texture in your hair you want to begin an inverted French braid also called a Dutch braid in the front top section of your hair. To do this you'll work just like a French braid except that each piece that you bring from the outside into the middle, you're going to add under the center piece instead of over. You want this braid to be bulky and messy so don't worry too much about making it perfect. The braid is going to travel around your head close to the ear, down towards the nape of the neck and around the back of your head at the nape. Once you reach a certain point usually around the ear you may want to change arm positions to make it easier to hold the braid close to the head as you travel around the back. As you move farther and farther across the back of the head you may run out of hair from the outside section by the neck. If this happens it's OK to continue the outside of the braid without adding any hair. Every time you add hair from the inside coming from the right side of the head, that's going to keep the braid traveling in the right direction. When you come around to the other corner to wrap the braid around to come over your shoulder you may want to change arm positions again. And you can finish off the braid, go ahead and loosen it up a little. You want it to be wide and uneven. Katniss has a few little pieces hanging out in the front around the face. You'll want to pull those out and you may want to curl them and stretch them out so they're not perfect ringlets.
