Hi, I'm Ryan Ault, I am a physicist, and this is how to put something in function notation. If we have some equation y is equal to 3x, it forms a line, this is your y-axis and this is your x-axis, where it's steeper in the y than it is in the x. So for every three going up, you go over one. Now, if we want to write this in function notation, we simply write y as being able to some function of x, and what this means that, is that when you have a certain independent variable x set to some value, for instance x is equal to one, then what you're really getting is a function of one, which is equal to the value of y, when x is equal to one. So in our case, when x is equal to one, right here, one, we find that y is simply equal to three. I'm Ryan Ault and this is how to put something in function notation.
