Hello, my name is Nicholas Staddon, I'm with Monrovia. Today, we're gonna talk about how to apply landscape fabric around shrubs. Why do you want to put landscape fabric around shrubs? Well, the primary reason is to control soil erosion or to keep weeds down. Landscape fabric is key to many gardens. A lot of us don't have time to do the weeding, and especially in large landscape jobs, which is why we put the barrier down. When you're making your choice, some weed barrier will let air and moisture through. Also, when you make your selection of the landscape fabric, read the directions carefully as to which side come in contact with the soil. As you can see, from the fabric I have here, both sides are pretty much the same. Some manufacturers products have a fuzzy or hairy underside, and that's the side that needs to come in contact wit the soil. Okay, so we have our fabric, we finished planting, we've got our mulch, we've got our fertilizer under here. The next thing we have is a sharp pair of scissors. Don't use a knife or pruners because it just won't work. We're gonna cut a slit in the landscape fabric. There we go. And then we bring that around the plant. It's almost like putting a tie on it, sort of speak. When you purchase your landscape fabric, make sure to buy some landscape pins. These are actually metal Us, you drive them through the landscape fabric, and they hold it together. We're not gonna leave the landscape fabric looking like this, because it will look awful. What we are going to do is cover it with beautiful bark, with about maybe two to three inches. This will hold the landscape fabric down, as well as our landscape pins, and it will make the plant look absolutely beautiful. Look at this golden color. Very easy, and very beautiful.
