Hi, my name is Dr. Nina Cherie Franklin, health and wellness expert with NinaCheriePHD.com and I'm here at the HF Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Illinois. In this clip I'm going to show you some great exercise equipment for toning your hips. When it comes to toning your hips you need to choose resistance training equipment that allows you to work all of the major muscle groups in this area. These muscle groups include the glutes, the quadriceps located on the front of the thighs, the hamstrings located on the backs of the thighs as well as the muscles located on your inner and outer thighs. Some of the best equipment includes free weights like dumbbells, kettle bells, or a barbell, rubber tubing or ankle weights, exercise balls or even your own body weight. Using this equipment you can perform a large variety of different exercises. When it comes to free weights you can perform various types of squats with dumbbells or a barbell in order to tone or tighten the glutes and the quadriceps. You can also perform lunges with dumb bells or a barbell to really sculpt the glutes as well as the hamstrings. Kettle bells are great for performing funkier exercises to work the hips especially the inner and outer thighs. Using kettle bells you can perform Sumo deadlifts for the inner thighs as well as single leg half squats for both the inner and outer thighs. Rubber tubing for the ankle and ankle weights are great for specifically targeting the glutes, the hamstrings, as well as the muscles located on your inner and outer thighs. You can use the rubber tubing or the ankle weights to perform exercises like standing kickbacks or floor extensions for the glutes or the hamstrings. You can also perform adductions for the inner thighs and abductions for the outer thighs while either standing or lying on the floor. You can use an exercise ball to perform various exercises that incorporate your own body weight. Some basic exercises you can perform using this ball include the ball squat and the leg press which are both great exercises for the glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings. You can also perform lying ball squeezes to work the inner thighs and ball abductions to work the outer thighs and there you have it some of the best exercise for toning your hips.
