Hi, I’m Faith Sheridan, Faith Sheridan Design Group, and I’m based in Seattle, Washington. I’m in the Seattle Design Center at the Duralee showroom, and I’m going to talk about selecting an area rug color for your home. This is an important decision. Area rugs tend to be permanent. So, how do you go about selecting an area rug color? I think you first look at the color of the stain on your hardwood floor. I’m showing you a floor now that is a dark stain. It’s brown, and on the floor itself is a brown rug, so you really can’t see this beautiful rug – it’s lost, there’s no contrast. So, that’s an important thing to keep in mind: When you choose an area rug color for your hardwood floor, what is the color of the stain or wood on your floor? I’m going to show you how we correct this situation by taking a lighter-patterned rug and place it on the dark hardwood floor. You’ll see that immediately, the contrast of the furniture grouping has changed. The rug becomes more important, and it makes sense to have the contrast of the finishes. There are many considerations when choosing an area rug, but if you simplify this by starting with, “What is the color of my floor, and what other colors are in my furniture group?” you’ll be headed to a correct decision in making an area rug color selection for your hardwood floor. Again, I’m Faith Sheridan. I’ve enjoyed talking to about selecting an area rug color for your hardwood floor. Thank you.
