Hi, I’m Faith Sheridan, Faith Sheridan Design Group based in Seattle, Washington. And today, I’m in the Seattle Design Center at the Duralee showroom, talking about simple decorating in a small space. For me, the most important consideration of selecting furniture for a small space is that it is multipurpose. I’m seated on an cocktail ottoman square piece of furniture, and as you can see, I have my magazine nearby, I have a tray with a couple mugs. So, in its day to day functioning, this cocktail ottoman serves a purpose in a conversational group. There would be people around, seated using the table, putting it to work. The beauty of multipurpose furniture is just that – it becomes something else. And, for this piece of furniture, that happens at the end of the day when you have a guest staying at your home. This single square ottoman actually becomes a bed. So, after your guests leave, they retire, you pull this bed out of the square cocktail ottoman, put the bed coverings on, and your guest can spend the night. In the morning, when everybody’s up and returning to the day, you return the cocktail ottoman to its day to day use and use it to serve coffee, maybe some appetizers, toast. And, you’ve made good use of a simple space with multipurpose furniture. I hope you’ve enjoyed this conversation about using simple furniture in your space.
