Hi, I’m Farm to Table chef Teca Thompson, at TecaThompson.com. And today, we’re talking about how the proper way to water corn. So, I don’t think there’s a proper way to water corn, but there’s definitely the importance of making sure it gets enough water. So, if there was a proper way, it would make sure it gets enough water per week. So, enough water per week for corn is about an inch and a half of water. So, it completely depends. Obviously, when the corn starts off – like, as a transplant – it doesn’t need an inch and a half of water. You just want to make sure that the soil inside of it stays moist so it can begin its germination process and sprout like these little babies have here. Other than that, if it’s a really big patch you can just run your hose over it and let it soak in. Or, when I do small patches or individual rows like this, I just take my watering can and just water it really gently, letting it soak into the roots. So, if you can imagine that it’s getting, like, four to six inches down through the roots. So, the proper way to water corn is just to make sure that it gets the amount of water it needs throughout its growing process. So, that would be an inch to an inch and a half of water per week to make it happy and to make it grow, and so it can tassel and it can silk, and it grow out through its whole period and develop you beautiful ears of corn.
