Hi, I'm Farm to Table Chef, Teca Thompson at TecaThompson.com, and today we're talking about how to prune corn. So, there's two ways that I imagine you want to prune corn, if you do. One, would be for hand pollinating corn, and that means you would take the top, which is called the tassel. And you would snip it off about half an inch down from where it's pollinating. And this would be good for pollinating with silk, which is down here. I'm not going to do it today on this one, but as you can see, you just take a bit like this and that's for self pollinating. So, that's one way of pruning corn, should you want to hand pollinate your corn. Another way, is to find what is called a sucker or tiller on the corn stalk. So, as you can see, there's one growing right here, it usually grows from the base of the corn and it's just like an extra, little piece. And if you can you just want to hand snap it off from the stalk and remove it. So that would be the sucker or the tiller. Now sometimes these can grow into ears, but it'll only grow into an ear, if something had actually damaged the stalk. And sometimes this is a way to regrow the corn plant. But this is called the sucker or tiller and as you can see, I have like four ears already growing on this stalk. So, it's kind of nice to give it some room to grow, you just remove this. And that's how you prune your corn plant. I'm Farm to Table Chef, Teca Thompson at TecaThompson.com, thank you for watching.
