Hi, I'm Rick Koller. I'm the chief operations officer of Criterium-Tauscher Cronacher Professional Engineers. We're going to talk about how to store a portable generator. For example this is a portable generator. This one happens to be a bigger sized one. It's on wheels, it comes with a handle and you really can move it around. One of the things to remember about a portable generator is before you put it away make sure that it has cooled off and it's not immediately after use. The second thing to remember is that these are gas run generators, that the gas cap on it is secured tightly so that you don't have fumes leaking into the environment because they are toxic. I prefer to store a portable generator, in a shed away from the house but in the event that you don't have a shed, you may need to store it in your garage. You never store a portable generator inside the house, it's very dangerous to do so because of the fumes. You need to make sure that it's in a safe, dry place, away from anything that it could get caught on or anything that could fall on it. Some generators are smaller than others that they can be picked up and put on shelves, they don't come on wheels. It's never a bad idea to keep it off the ground and just have some wood underneath it just in case you get some water or leakage in that shed or garage. It's also never a bad idea to clean it off after it's cooled off just to make sure that the machinery is maintained for as long as you can possibly have it. Again, this is Rick Koller, I'm the chief operations officer for Criterium-Tauscher Cronacher Professional Engineers and those are some basic tips on how to store a portable generator.
