Hi, this is Nicholas Iarocci, The Home Source Guy, president and owner of Source Development, Inc., a residential and commercial construction company in Garnerville, New York and this is how to remove silicone with tile solvent. Now I want to emphasize the fact that if you are applying caulking or silicone to a tub or tile application, you want to make sure you have a flat razor handy and remove as much excess as you can right from the get go but there are instances where you know, homeowners might not be very, you know used to the motions and they get a little sloppy with the application. So what do you do? You could try scraping the excess off with a flat razor even after it dries but if you do have to use a tile solvent, I'm going to walk you through it. Now again some of these tile solvents, well most of them have precautionary measures that you really have to safeguard yourself with, you know, make sure you are working in a well ventilated area, make sure you are not around any sparks because this stuff is highly flammable. You have to check for fastness of the material you are working with, you know, is it going to eat through, you might have like a resin bathtub. You might have some surface that will get harmed by using these products so you really want to make sure you check the labels and work out which product is best suitable for the application that you are going to use it for. But I've had good luck with lacquer thinner. Personally it evaporates quickly. This is good for, this Xylene here is good for resins but if you have an acrylic tub it might damage the tub so you really have to be aware of what you are doing. Apply some to a rag or a sponge or Scotchbrite and wipe off the excess and that was how to remove silicone using tile solvent.
