Hi, my name is David Alemian, host of the "It's About Money Radio Show." You know I've been in the insurance industry for over 18 years. Today we're going to answer the question about life insurance testing procedures. You probably want to know about this because you are probably about to apply for life insurance. Well when you apply for different types of life insurance, many times, you are asked to take a medical exam. In most cases the exam will be conducted in your home. This is called a paramed exam. A paramedic will come to your home will measure your height and weight and blood pressure. Depending on your age and the amount of insurance for example if you are a little bit older and you are getting a higher amount of insurance, the exam could also consist of a blood test, an oral fluid test, that's where they take a swab and they just swab your gums, a urinalysis and even possibly an EKG. The paramedic will also ask you a series of medical questions related to your health. Now for higher amounts of insurance and for applicants over 40, the insurance company sometimes asks that the exam be conducted by a medical doctor, the difference being the medical doctor will also use his stethoscope and listen to your heart. Now I always advise my clients to schedule your exam first thing in the morning right when they get up and allow for about 40 minutes or so for the exam. It could take a little less time if there were less requirements. It could take a little longer time if there were more requirements. For example, if they need to do an EKG. Now you want to schedule it first thing in the morning before you've had anything to eat or any food. That way it won't throw off the results of your urinalysis or blood test and you'll get the most accurate and best results for you. My name is David Alemian.
