Naming a Hyperlink

Naming a hyperlink directly affects the way that link is returned in various search engines. Name a hyperlink with help from a computer science and media production specialist in this free video clip.

Hello, my name is Josiah Rea, and I'm going to demonstrate for you how to name a hyperlink. And basically, this means that you have, you want to link somebody to another web site or a picture or something like that but instead of displaying that long piece of URL you want to just say "click here" or something like that. So I'm here in Dream Weaver and I'm just going to actually type in "Click Here!". And it's very, very easy to do. All you have to do is highlight the text that you want to link, right click on it and say Make Link. And then down here where it says URL you can copy the URL out of a website or write it by hand. Just for ease of use I'm going to copy it. So we can go, I'm right here in Google so you just highlight the URL across the top of the page and copy it and you can come down here, and I'm actually going to hard code the http at the beginning of it just to be absolutely sure it works. So http:// and then control V, oh it actually puts it in for you which is a nice touch. So, Dream Weaver's a very smart program helping me out there. So we've got the full URL in there now and you click OK and now you can see that your text is underlined and it's colored blue. And that's kind of a default for any kind of a hyperlink so that people know that it's actually going to link them someplace. And we're going to come up here to the preview and we'll preview that in Chrome. Yep, save changes. And this is our very fancy, custom HTML page with our link. So you click on the link and it takes you right to Google just like it's supposed to. If you want to see the code for what Dream Weaver creates for you, you can go to the split view over here on the left and click right in your link and you can see in the code that this is what it generates. It's the a tag with the href being the URL for what you want. And then at the end of the opening tag you can put whatever text you want into there.
