Hi, I'm Lindsay Hair, an interior designer in New York City and founder of Linden Blue eDesign, your online decorating resource. Let's take a few minutes to discuss how you can bring big design to your small kitchen. As an urban dweller for many years, I found that the best way to spice up your small kitchen, is through the use of emphasis and drama. My first recommendation, is to go bold with a great wall paper, whether you like florals or geometrics, pastels or a deep black. Creating a dramatic impression will quickly make you forget that you're standing in a small space, because you'll be standing in awe. It's also a great way to play around with patterns without too much of a commitment. Small spaces are great for redecorating when your taste change over time. My next recommendation, is to consider using open shelves rather than closed cabinets for some your cabinetry design. At some point, we're all bound to have a great place setting, a beautiful vase, or a collection of wine glasses. These normal elements of a kitchen make great showpieces. So, why not keep the cabinets open and let others admire them as well. Lastly, a few architectural details will help bring a cohesive flow to your kitchen. I always recommend to my clients, to take their cabinetry to the ceiling and come in on the surface of the cabinet, with the crown molding found in the room. That way, not only have you removed that awkward space that only collects dust, but you give a sense of height to the space by incorporating the millwork into the architectural crown molding. Go one step further and bring in a beautiful tile for your backsplash. And you've taken the decorative detailing of your kitchen to the next level. Thanks for tuning in, I'm Lindsay Hair, and have fun creating a big look for your small kitchen.
