Hi, this is Reena from Reena.ca, and this is how to prepare breadstick dough. Well, I've got some great tricks for you that will give you the beset dough you've ever tasted and the first thing that I always like to do is boil a potato in water. So I take my potato, I boil it in a pot of water. Of course, I peel the potato first and quarter it. Once the potato is soft, I let it all cool down and then I pour it into a measuring cup. Leave the water in the measuring cup to cool down. Then, you add enough water so that you have three cups of water and the potato inside of your measuring cup. Next you're going to add your yeast. You only need one tablespoon of active yeast. Add that to the water mixture and let it rise for five minutes to give the yeast a chance to dissolve. Once that's dissolved, you're going to put one tablespoon of sugar into your recipe. If you don't want to use sugar, you can use one tablespoon of plain old honey. Then, one third of a cup of lard and mix that up and add dry milk powder. You need a half a cup of dry milk powder. Next add your salt. You want to leave your salt until the end. While sugar feeds yeast and helps it to grow, salt deters yeast and helps it to stop growing. So add that last, a half a tablespoon of salt. Add that to your bowl and lastly, slowly, you want to add four to six cups of bread flour. If you don't have bread flour, all-purpose flour works just as well. I've added the water with the potato and the active dry yeast. Now I'm going to add a tablespoon of sugar and a third cup of lard, get that mixed up, one half a cup of powder, milk powder and a half a tablespoon of salt. Now I can start adding flour and you don't want to add it too quickly because it will make a big mess in your kitchen. That looks good. Now you always want to test and make sure that your bread dough is the perfect consistency. So take it out and stretch it apart and if it stretches apart slowly, then your bread dough is ready to go. If it tears apart, then you need to continue to mix it. After your bread dough is ready, cover it with a tea towel and place it in a warm spot for 30 to 40 minutes until it is doubled in size and then take it and shape it into breadsticks. You can make as long breadsticks as you want, just make sure that you don't force the stretching of your bread dough because what will happen is it will shrink as its baking. So just gently shape your breadsticks and put them on a greased pan and bake them for eight minutes at 350 degrees. And that's how you prepare breadsticks. I'm Reena from Reena.ca.
