Hi! I’m Mariko. Today, I’m going to show you how to make an apple crostata. An apple crostata is a free-form apple pie. It’s really delicious, and it looks very rustic and beautiful. To get started, you’ll want to preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Then, I have a bowl of thinly sliced apples – this is about two apples here. And, I’m going to add a couple tablespoons of brown sugar – you could use some honey or agave or white sugar if you would like. Then, I’m going to add a couple tablespoons of flour. The flour is going to help the juices from the apples absorb, to make the crostata not soggy. Then, I’m going to add a little sprinkle of cinnamon – maybe a little extra sprinkle of cinnamon – and, a little bit of nutmeg. You can also get creative by adding some chopped walnuts or some ginger – whatever you normally like in your apple pies. Now, I’m just going to mix all of these ingredients together. Once the apples, the flour, the brown sugar and the spice is all blended, I can start to get the pie crust ready for the crostata. For the crostata, you’ll want to get your favorite pie crust recipe. You could make your very own at home, or if you’re in a hurry, you could just get one that’s premade from the grocery store. I’m going to put a little parchment paper down on my work surface. This is just a regular nine-inch pie crust. It’s already thawed, and I am just going to dump it out onto my parchment paper. If you had your own pie crust, you could just make it round and put it on the parchment paper instead. Now, I’m going to put some of my apples inside the center of the pie crust, and kind of bring it out to the edges. Okay. Now, I’m just going to start to fold the edges up. If it’s not perfect, don’t worry about it. That’s what gives the apple crostata some of its rustic charm. Now that my pie crust is all around the edges, it’s ready to put onto my baking sheet. Now, I’m just going to bake my apple crostata in the 450 degree oven for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. This is Mariko, showing you how to make apple crostata. Enjoy!
