Soothing a Scalp Irritated From Hair Dye

Hey everybody, welcome back to The Kitchen. I'm your kitchen beautician, Robin McDonald. Today's video is how to soothe an irritated scalp due to hair dye. Now if you are like me you might have to go in and get those grays covered a couple times a month. In any event, the best remedy to soothe an irritated scalp is pure olive oil. You know I love my olive oil and also as I always say make sure if you are buying olive oil you want to buy it in an opaque bottle like this or a can because light will diffuse the action and benefits of the olive oil. So you start with a cup of olive oil, heat it up in the microwave maybe 20 seconds. Today I'm adding lavender, crushed, beautiful, soothing, aromatic lavender to my formula. You don't have to do that but it just adds a little something extra. Now, this is a pre-shampoo treatment for the scalp and you want to do it on a dry scalp. So don't wet your hair. We don't want to diffuse the action of the formula. Once you've got your formula together it's a temperature that's comfortable enough for you to pour it on your hair and again I like to remind people to use a plastic beaker, especially if you are taking it into the bathroom to use it. Now you've combed it through your hair, bring it all the way to the ends to fill in and nurture the ends of your hair too. It's a really wonderful hair conditioner. You're going to wrap your hair in plastic wrap, just the way they did in the old beauty shop days and then, cover it in a towel. I just run water under this, put it in the microwave for about a minute, get it nice and warm to hold in the heat so that the olive oil will penetrate the scalp beautifully, leave it on for five or ten minutes as long as you can before the towel starts to get cold. Then it's sort of done working its magic and move onto your shampooing and conditioning. So remember to bring it all the way down to the ends of your hair and fill in that cuticle. And of course, your scalp will be relieved and soothed and calmed and hopefully that your hair will be the color that you asked for but if not, it will be shiny and bouncy and lustrous and you're going to love it.
